To understand what this blog is about, it’s important to give a little background information about myself. I’m a 27 year old ex-Marine that spent time working in computer networking and various other IT areas. I joined the Marine Corps in 2002, partly because I had lost my scholarships that I had earned for college and couldn’t afford the tuition. After finishing my tour in the Marines, I tried going back to school but still couldn’t muster the motivation to stick with it and graduate. I have a severe lack of focus whenever I begin to get bored with something and I’ve found it very hard to stick with things once I hit the ‘boredom’ threshold. As it is, I’ve spent time living with my girlfriend, mother, and father over the past year and a half, usually broke and dependant. This isn’t to say I’m not capable, either. I’ve gotten a 32 on the ACT, a 170 on the LSAT, and have been a member of Mensa for over two years, if standardized test scores are any gauge of ability. My problem has always been a lack of focus and motivation.

This brings me to where I am now and why I am writing this blog. I’ve made the decision to change my life – not the type of decision you make one day after a couple of drinks  (the type of decision that you will inevitably fail following through on) – but the kind of decision that is made after spending years analyzing yourself and realizing that it’s either now or never. This blog will document my steps from nothing to, what I hope to be, a million dollars. The million may seem like an arbitrary number but it represents a definite goal – something specific to shoot for. A million might also seem like I’m ‘shooting for the stars’ but I disagree. We live in a world where an idea, the hard work to follow it through, and the ability to get it done can earn you countless amounts of money. Besides, I’m of the opinion that people generally sell themselves short. If you think a million dollars is an unattainable amount of money, then it will be. I won’t be satisfied with anything less so that’s what I’m going to set my sights on.

I’m starting off with a few ideas and a potential job offer that will give me a head-start towards my goal. I’ll give more updates on the blog as that goes along, but suffice it to say that right now I’m a long way off from my goal. I will update how I’m doing every step of the way and I’m looking forward to feedback and advice from anyone that will be willing to give it to me. I’m only unwilling to do things that are illegal, so if there’s any moneymaking ideas that any of you have, feel free to share them with me and everyone else who reads this blog.

Other than that, I hope you enjoy following along with my life and whether you are rooting for or against me, realize that I feel blessed to even have the opportunity to try something like this. Wish me luck!
